Forced to Flee

In this 5-minute video, we hear from Keidra Navaroli, Assistant Director and Curator of the Ruth Funk Museum, Juror Dr. Susan Beryl Marks, SAQA Executive Director Martha Sielman, and Carla Funk, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Ruth Funk Museum. They talk about the importance of artwork and exhibitions which bring up difficult conversations.

This short video is a virtual walk-through of the exhibition and gives an up-close look at the textures and stitching in these amazing, detailed artworks.

Forced to Flee features the traveling quilt exhibit called “Forced to Flee.” With 36 quilts in this exhibit created by people from around the world, these quilts portray the reasons refugees flee from their home, and the hardships they face while seeking for safety in foreign countries. Production funding provided by the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund and by the members of Prairie Public. About the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund In 2008, Minnesota voters passed a landmark piece of legislation — the Minnesota Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment — which provided funding to public television stations serving audiences in Minnesota. Its mission is to help preserve and document the treasures of culture, history, and heritage that make Minnesota special, and to increase access to the natural and cultural resources we all share.
