Forced to Flee
25, May 2019 - 21 Aug 2022
Throughout history people have been forced to flee from their homes for their own safety and survival due to war, oppression, natural disasters, and atrocious human rights violations. The refugee crisis has imposed severe impacts on the social, economic, and political structures of host countries, especially poor and developing countries.
This powerful and timely exhibition illustrates the global challenges arising from the current refugee crisis impacting countries across the world.
"I was moved to tears by many of the sorrowful stories in these powerful depictions. These works are accessible even if they can make uncomfortable viewing. Audiences will surely come away with images etched into their memories, and with more awareness of the tragic plight of large sections of humanity."
— Dr. Sue Marks (exhibition juror)
Being selected for the global touring exhibition Forced to Flee with my work, Walking the Refugee Road: Forced to Flee, was an extraordinary honour. The theme deeply resonated with me, embodying my unwaving commitment to compassion and empathy for those migrants to Australia who are less fortunate than myself.

Dear artists,
Thank you for sharing your artwork with SAQA for Forced to Flee. The exhibition remains popular and continues to travel to museums despite the lockdowns caused by the pandemic. Although we have already extended the tour date and the exhibition is completely sold out, I continue to receive requests from museums to host it. This is a testament to the power of your work and your message. Thank you for sharing it with the world!
