Biography and
Exhibition History

Marie Mitchell is a WA-based mixed media artist whose textile and fibre work explores allegory, nature, and sustainability. She lives and creates on Bindjareb Boodja, the traditional lands of the Noongar people, and acknowledges their enduring care for Country. Formerly an educator, she turned to full-time practice in 2018. She now creates tactile, layered works using upcycled fabrics and stitch. Her recent project, Wetland Stories, was developed in collaboration with Peel-Harvey Catchment Council, the Wetland Centre Cockburn, local community groups, and Aboriginal Elders. This earned her a place at the 20th WA Wetlands Conference, where she co-presented a sensory-rich exhibition and artist–scientist forum exploring Peel-Yalgorup Wetlands. Co-founder of Peel ArtsConnect Inc. and coordinator of SAQA’s Oceania exhibition, Marie’s work is collected internationally and supports environmental advocacy. She continues to explore the intersection of art, ecology, and community, using her work to inspire connection and care for the natural world.
