Wetland Stories: Art, Identity and Conservation

What do the wetlands mean to you? How do they shape your sense of belonging and connection? How can you help protect them for future generations?

These are some of the questions that three Mandurah-based artists explore in their multimedia exhibition, Wetland Stories. Through video, audio, interactive displays, fine art photography, mixed media, textiles and sculptural ceramic installations, they share personal and community stories inspired by the Peel-Yalgorup Wetlands, a Ramsar-listed site of international significance. The wetlands are home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, and play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region. They are also a source of cultural heritage, recreation and education for the local community.

The exhibition invites you to discover the stories behind the artworks, and reflect on how the wetlands form part of your own identity. The artists hope to raise awareness and appreciation for these precious ecosystems, and encourage you to take action to conserve them.

Wetland Stories is a celebration of art, identity and conservation. It is an immersive, interactive experience that engages all your senses. The professionally produced soundtrack of birds and water sounds from the estuary, will connect you to the wetlands upon entering the exhibition.  Watch the stunning videography of the ‘Wetlands Above’, share in the experiences of local wildlife rescue volunteers or contribute to the Postcards to the Future community art display.
